Born 26 December 1939 in the Bronx, New York City, NY, USA.
Died January 16, 2021 in French Camp, CA.
Groundbreaking and temperamental American record producer who revolutionized pop music with his densely overdubbed, orchestral "Wall of Sound" production technique, creating timeless hits for The Ronettes ("Be My Baby"), The Crystals, Ike & Tina Turner, and The Beatles. A child prodigy who scored his first #1 hit at 17 with "To Know Him Is to Love Him," he became the youngest label owner in the U.S. at 21 when he founded Philles Records, later producing landmark albums like George Harrison's All Things Must Pass and John Lennon's Imagine. Despite earning a Grammy, an Oscar, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his legacy was irrevocably tarnished by his 2009 conviction for the second-degree murder of actress Lana Clarkson, for which he served 18 years in prison until his death in 2021 at age 81.
Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 (Non-Performer).
Inducted into The Songwriters Hall of Fame 1997.
Formerly married to and Ronnie Spector.
