What it doesn't do

Written before you install rather than discovered afterwards. If one of these is a dealbreaker, better that you find out now — we would rather lose the install than the argument later.

It is not a Discogs sync app

It does not import your Discogs listings into Shopify, and it does not delist a record on Discogs when it sells here. If a two-way pipe between your Discogs inventory and your shop is the thing you need solved this week, this is not the app for that job and we'd rather say so on the first page you read.

What it does instead is describe the records already in your Shopify catalogue, including the ones that never went through Discogs at all — the distributor feed, the new releases, the stock you typed in yourself.

Records that aren't out yet have nothing to describe

A pre-order is a record that does not exist. There is no pressing, so there is nothing true to say about the pressing.

Pre-orders and brand-new releases usually come back with no match. There is no label, no catalogue number, no country, no matrix, no sleeve notes — those facts are made when the record is manufactured and catalogued, and until then nobody has them, us included.

Nothing breaks when this happens. The product is left exactly as you had it, and it will match once the record is out and in the catalogue.

Vinyl, CD and cassette only

Turntables, cartridges, T-shirts, tote bags, books, magazines, DVDs and VHS will not match anything, because our catalogue only ever loaded records, CDs, cassettes and box sets. If half your shop is used VHS, half your shop is out of scope.

You do not have to separate them out first — non-music stock simply comes back with no match and is left alone.

There is no undo button

Nothing in the app removes what it wrote. If you enrich four hundred records and decide you hate the house style, you are editing products in Shopify, or bulk-editing them, or living with it.

This is the limit we like least, and it is the reason the free 50 is the right way to try it: run it on a shelf, look at the result on your own storefront, then decide.

Every listing carries one credit line

At the bottom of the block we write, there is one italic line: Listing details powered by Gatefold, linking back to us. It is on every plan today and there is no setting to turn it off. You can delete it by hand on any product; it returns if that product is enriched again.

It cannot grade a record it has never seen

Media and sleeve condition, ring wear, a split seam, a missing insert — none of that is knowable from a catalogue, and we do not guess at it. Grades and flaw notes appear on a listing only when you type them in during Exact pick.

For the same reason, an un-graded record is never tagged New. Absence of a grade means we know nothing, not that the record is sealed.

The quick lane is a guess, and says so

For records with no barcode, the one-click lane takes the closest album it can find by name and marks the result as a guess. It will sometimes land on the wrong pressing — a repress instead of the original — because a title alone genuinely cannot tell them apart.

Barcodes can collide too: reissue territories often share one, and when several pressings answer to the same barcode we take the most recent. Exact pick overrides both cases. How matching works explains when to trust which.

No pricing, no stock, no orders

It does not suggest prices, reprice anything, or touch your stock levels. It never sees an order or a customer — the app doesn't ask Shopify for permission to read either, which you can check on the permission screen before you install.

What the free 50 actually means

Fifty records, counted per version of a product. A record that came back with no match costs nothing. Re-enriching one you've already done costs nothing, so correcting a wrong pressing is always free.

At fifty, new enrichment stops and the app tells you. Nothing already written is removed, hidden, watermarked or degraded, and the fifty stay enriched whatever you decide to do next — including uninstalling.

If you uninstall, what we wrote stays

We stop writing immediately and delete our own record of which products we'd matched. The pressing details, tags and cover art already on your products remain on them.

That is deliberate — removing an app should not blank four hundred product pages — but it cuts both ways: once you uninstall, we no longer have permission to remove it for you either. If you want it gone, remove it before you uninstall, or edit the products afterwards.

Ten languages, and only ten

Listings can be written in English, French, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), German, Polish, Japanese and Korean. Anything else gets English. Grade letters stay in their standard form — a VG+ is a VG+ in every language.
