A sync app moves your listings. This one writes them.

Every other Discogs app on the App Store is a pipe: it carries a listing from one place to another. None of them writes down what the record actually is. Gatefold reads the pressing in your shop and fills in the parts a shopper needs and you don't have time to type.

One record, before and after

This is a real reissue, and everything on the right is what the app actually writes — not a mock-up. Read the right-hand column the way a customer would.

Where each fact came from

The barcode 602448476357 resolves to one Discogs release — the 2023 Impulse!/Verve Acoustic Sounds pressing, B0036675-01. Format, label, catalogue number, country, pressing year, sleeve notes and tracklist are read from that pressing's own entry. Genre, style and the 1971 original-release year come from the album entry above it, because they are facts about the album rather than this copy of it.

Condition grades are not in this example, and that is not an oversight: nothing knows the state of the sleeve in your hand. Grades appear only when you type them in during Exact pick.

Why the pressing is the whole point

There are more than thirty pressings of the record above. A 1971 Impulse! original, a 1997 reissue, a 2003 recut, a 2017 tip-on gatefold, the 2023 Acoustic Sounds one in the example. They sell for wildly different money and a customer who cares knows the difference.

“Alice Coltrane — Journey In Satchidananda, LP, $34” tells that customer nothing, so they go and ask, or they don't buy. Naming the catalogue number, the plant, the weight and the year answers the question before it's asked. That is the entire pitch, and it is why matching on the exact pressing rather than the album is the part that took the work.

What it needs from you

No Discogs account, no field mapping, nothing to configure before it will run. If your records carry barcodes, you press one button and go back to the counter. If they don't, there are two other ways in — all three are explained here.
