Showing the Discogs bio

Rock band from New York City. They are cited as one of the more important and influential groups of their era.
Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 (category: Performer).
Original members:
Lou Reed (born 2 March 1942 - died 27 October 2013): vocals, guitar, piano
John Cale (born 9 March 1942): vocals, electric viola, organ, bass guitar
Sterling Morrison (born 29 August 1942 - died 30 August 1995): vocals, guitar, bass
Moe Tucker (born 26 August 1944): drums, percussion.
Angus MacLise was the original drummer, but did not officially record with the band. Nico was only a fleeting member, merely contributing vocals to 4 songs of the 1967 debut LP, also known for Andy Warhol's artwork. Conversely, the band did contribute to her solo debut Chelsea Girl, out later in 1967.
After two massively influential albums, Cale was ousted from the band by Reed, with multi-instrumentalist Doug Yule replacing him. Two more classic albums were released, with Reed quiting the band soon after. Yule was pushed to continue the group by their manager, but after a record in 1973, he stopped using the VU name.
The original line-up of Reed / Cale / Morrison / Tucker reunited in 1993 for a short European tour.
