US producer and sound engineer, born on February 13, 1943 in Muskegon, Michigan.
Szymczyk joined the United States Navy in 1960, where he worked as a sonar technician. While in the Navy he took his first course in radio and television production. After leaving the Navy in 1964, he started out at a firm which produced demo recordings for Screen Gems Records and worked extensively with the Brill Building songwriting team. He also worked as an assistant to music producers and songwriters Quincy Jones and Jerry Ragovoy, eventually working his way up to chief engineer at Ragavoy's The Hit Factory studio in New York City.
He left the Hit Factory for ABC Records, working in Los Angeles and Denver and moving from engineering to producing. In 1971 he founded his own label Tumbleweed Records Inc. In 1976 he founded his own studio in Coconut Grove, Florida. He is also the founder of /.
He retired from the music business in 1990 and returned in the late 2000s, taking on select projects such as for the Eagles, the band he is most famous for working. He now lives in Little Switzerland, North Carolina.
