Questions shop owners ask first

Ten short answers, checked against what the app actually does. If yours isn't here, the address at the bottom of this page reaches a person.

Common questions

What does it cost?

Two plans. Crate is free and covers 50 enriched records — not a countdown, and they don't expire. Storefront is $49/month for unlimited enriched records, with a 14-day free trial.

Everything else is on both plans: the collector fields, the theme blocks, the barcode queue and the pressing picker. There is no per-record fee and no commission on your sales. Full detail on the pricing page.

Can the app see my customers or my orders?

No. It asks for three permissions and none of them is a customer, order or payment permission: read_productsto read the catalogue it's describing, write_products to write the pressing details onto your own products, and write_inventory to set stock quantities on records the import lane creates for you.

So this app holds no customer data and no order data — which is a consequence of that list, not a promise about our conduct. You can check it yourself on the permission screen before you install. Full policy: app.gatefold.fm/privacy.

Will it change products I already wrote?

It adds its details below whatever you wrote — your own description text is never edited or removed. What it writes is the spec block and tracklist, tags, and front and rear cover art, on records it matched.

It does not touch your prices and it does not reprice anything. It does not change stock on products you created yourself; the one place it sets a quantity is on a record its own import lane just added for you.

A record it can't identify is left exactly as it was — nothing written, nothing flagged on the product, no placeholder on your storefront.

What happens when I hit the free 50?

New enrichment stops and the console tells you. Nothing already written is removed, hidden, watermarked or degraded, and those 50 stay enriched whatever you decide to do next — including uninstalling.

The count is of records currently enriched, per version of a product. Records that came back with no match never counted, and re-enriching one you've already done doesn't count again — so correcting a wrong pressing is always free, even at the cap.

Which themes do the storefront blocks work with?

Works with any Online Store 2.0 theme — that's every current theme. Vintage themes from before 2021 can't place app blocks.

There is no code to paste and no developer needed: in the theme editor it's Add sectionApps Gatefold, then drag and save. Four blocks ship — Pressing Details and Tracklist for product pages, Grail Wall and New Arrivals for your home page. None of them ship any JavaScript, so none of them can slow your storefront down.

How does grading work?

On the Goldmine scale, and a copy carries two grades — a Media grade for the disc and a Sleeve grade for the jacket. A near-mint record in a beaten sleeve is a different object from the reverse, and it prices differently.

The letters stay in their standard form in every language — a VG+ is a VG+ whether the listing is written in German or Japanese. The words around them are translated; the letters are the international shorthand and translating them would break the one thing a buyer abroad can read.

Grades appear only when you type them in during Exact pick — condition isn't knowable from a catalogue and is never guessed. For the same reason an ungraded record is never tagged New.

What is the pressing picker, and why does the exact pressing matter?

Every pressing of an album shares the album's name, so a name can find the record but not the copy. Journey In Satchidananda has been pressed more than thirty times: a 1971 Impulse! original and a 2023 reissue have the same artist and the same title and nothing else in common — different plant, different catalogue number, different sleeve, ten times the price.

The picker is where you settle that. Search the album and choose from every pressing we hold, oldest first, each row showing year, country, label, Cat № and the Matrix / deadwax scratched into the run-out groove — which is what a collector reads when two pressings agree on everything else.

“LP, $34” tells that customer nothing, so they either ask or they don't buy. Naming the pressing answers it before it's asked.

Do I need a Discogs account?

No. There is no Discogs login and nothing to connect: matching runs against our own catalogue, so the barcode queue, the quick pass and the pressing picker all work on a fresh install with no account anywhere.

The one lane that needs something is Import from Gatefold, which pushes for-sale stock you already keep in a Gatefold console into your store. That button only appears when a Gatefold account is linked; without one you simply add products the way you always have, and enrichment works on them just the same.

It is also not a Discogs sync app — it doesn't import your Discogs listings or delist anything there when a record sells. That's covered on what it doesn't do.

What happens if I uninstall?

We stop writing immediately and delete our own record of which products we had matched. The pressing details, tags and cover art already on your products stay on them.

That's deliberate — removing an app shouldn't blank four hundred product pages — but it cuts both ways: once you uninstall we no longer have permission to remove any of it for you either. If you want it gone, take it off before you uninstall, or edit the products afterwards.

How do I get support?

Email support@gatefold.fm. A person answers.

Before that, the setup guide covers install to first enriched product, and how matching works explains why some records fill themselves in and some ask you a question.
