Kirsty MacColl (born on October 10, 1959 in Croydon, South London, UK - died December 18, 2000 in Cozumel, Mexico) was a singer-songwriter from England, UK. She was the daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl and dancer Jean Newlove, and the sister of and half-sister to Kitty MacColl, Neill MacColl (of The Bible) and Calum MacColl (of Liberty Horses). Aunt of Jamie MacColl (of Bombay Bicycle Club).
After a brief stint in 1978 with her first band, she went solo and scored a hit with the single There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis in 1981. In 1984, she married producer Steve Lillywhite and had two children (manager of Ellie Goulding) and.
Kirsty died whilst swimming with her children in Cozumel, Mexico after being hit by a speedboat which had crossed into an area restricted to swimmers only. Her final album Tropical Brainstorm was released posthumously, in early 2001.
