Biography

Greek-American composer, arranger, choral director and publisher.
Born 1880 in Nafplion, Greece. Died 1968 in Athens, Greece.
Roubanis is known within the American Greek Orthodox Church for the Divine Liturgy hymnal he wrote in the 1940's, featuring 4-part SATB music. Outside sacred music, he is best known as the composer of the popular song "Miserlou" (or "Misirlou"). His publishing company operated out of 265 W. 41st St., NY in the 1920's and 1930's.
Roubanis immigrated to the U.S. in 1925, relocating from Egypt to New York City.
