Shamwell charted as a songwriter eight times betwen 1967-85 on the U.S. charts, mostly on the R&B charts. His top selling song was Lovin' on Borrowed Time by William Bell, which hit #22 R&B and #101 overall (co-written by Homer Banks & William Bell). Shamwell was co-owner of Shakin' Records (Mississippi, USA) with Lee King.
