Biography
British drummer.
Born 13 March 1937 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England.
Died 19 March 2026 in Maó, Menorca, Spain.
Terry Cox turned professional around 1960 after studying with Jack Peach, working with Michael Garrick, Lennie Felix and Sandy Brown, and later with Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated and Duffy Power's Nucleus, where he formed a lasting rhythm partnership with bassist Danny Thompson. In 1967 the two joined Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Jacqui McShee to form the folk-jazz group Pentangle, which Cox remained with until its first break-up in 1973. He also contributed as a songwriter, writing pieces such as "Springtime Promises" and "Moondog", and returned for the band's reunions in the 1980s and for the reunion tour of the original line-up in 2008.
A prolific session drummer, Cox played on David Bowie's "Space Oddity", Elton John's debut album, the Bee Gees' "Cucumber Castle" and recordings by Alexis Korner, Charles Aznavour, Mike Batt and Rick Springfield, among many others. From the early 1970s he lived on Menorca, where he ran a restaurant and continued to perform with local musicians.
