About
Peter Criss is a 1978 solo album from the drummer and vocalist of American hard rock band Kiss. It was one of four solo albums released by the members of Kiss on September 18, 1978. The other albums were released by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley. The album was produced by Vini Poncia, who would go on to produce the Kiss albums Dynasty (1979) and Unmasked (1980). The album would be the lowest charting of all the Kiss solo albums of 1978, reaching #43 on the US Billboard album chart. On the other hand, it also had the distinction of being the only album of the four to have two singles released from it: "Don't You Let Me Down" and "You Matter to Me". Criss covered "Tossin' and Turnin'," which was a #1 hit for Bobby Lewis in the US during the summer of 1961. The song was subsequently covered by Kiss on their 1979 tour. Much of the material on this album was originally written in 1971 for Peter's pre-Kiss band Lips. Harvey Milk covered "Easy Thing" for their compilation album The Singles.

An ambitious "Solo" project with 4 special records was released in 1978. Their 4 Solo albums were released simultaneously in one day. The record label apparently invested about $2.5 million on marketing and promotions for the solo project. For the USA and Japanese market and vinyl pressing, LP's featured a special jigsaw poster of each member that when you purchased all 4 solo LP's connected together into one large poster or mural. Also included in the unique releases was a Kiss Army/merchandise order form, and custom inner photo sleeve showing all of the 4 releases.
Four songs from the 1971 LIPS demo for made it to Criss's solo album: “Baby, Don’t You let Me Down” “I’m Gonna Love You” “Hooked On Rock N Roll” and “That’s The Kind Of Sugar Papa Likes”. The demo also included “Beck” which became "Beth" on Destroyer and the unreleased “Don’t Let The Blues Surround You” & “You’re My Woman”
