This is volume-1 of a two series set, recorded live by the jazz musicians signed to CBS in 1977. Montreux Summit - Volume 2.
This was a short-lived project to follow-on, and capitalize on the CTI All-Stars. When started to have financial problems that eventually led to its bankruptcy, CBS/Columbia picked off its stars, starting with Bob James, who had been a house arranger and successful recording artist with CTI. Others followed including Hubert Laws.
James was the Executive Producer for this recording, and it's listed as a "Tappan Zee Production". was Bob James company and imprint at CBS/Columbia as part of the deal he made to switch labels. Columbia staff producer Jay Chattaway was quoted in Billboard Magazine, June 18th, 1977 saying "CBS is side stepping the term all-star in describing the players on the LP" and would "rather retain the identity of the individual players, we also don't like to use the term all-star because it's dated and is so small label sounding."
