"Calibration (is Pushing Luck and Key Too Far)" is the fifth solo studio album by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and the fourth part of his informal "Amsterdam cycle," a series that Omar recorded in 2005 while residing in the Netherlands, after:
(1) Omar Rodriguez CD/LP (Willie Anderson Recordings, 2005)
(2) Se Dice Bisonte, No Bùfalo CD/LP (Gold Standard Laboratories, 2007)
(3) The Apocalypse Inside Of An Orange CD/2×LP by Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quintet (Infrasonic Sound, 2007)
The album initially came out on CD in Japan on 15 December 2007, followed by the US release on 5 February 2008 on CD and 2×LP "light grey marble" colored vinyl, just a week after The Mars Volta's fourth album, The Bedlam In Goliath; the UK/European edition followed on 25 February. On 25 April 2011, Nitrous Oxide Records reissued the album across all three territories. According to N2O, Rodriguez-Lopez provided the original title as "Calibration is Pushing Luck and Key Too Far;" however, only "CALIBRATION" appears on the physical release. The artwork featured graffiti by GREY, Omar's childhood friend and street artist. "Calibration" was the second and the highest-charting solo album by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez in the United States at the time, peaking at 29 on Billboard (opens in a new tab)'s Top Heatseekers chart.
