Biography
Showing the Discogs bio
Accordionist, composer, arranger, leader.
Born: December 12, 1950, Cannes, France.
In 1991, acting on the advice of Astor Piazzolla, whom he had first met in 1983, Richard Galliano returned to his roots. He revisited the traditional repertoire of waltzes, javas, tangos, and ballads that he had long ignored.
Channeling the spirit of Tony Murena and Gus Viseur, Galliano helped the accordion shed its outdated image. He achieved this by redefining rhythmic concepts and evolving harmonic structures, successfully adapting the instrument to the world of jazz.
