American singer, actor, musician, and radio and TV personality who made a major contribution to the growth of country music after World War II.
Appeared on WLS National Barn Dance from 1930-37 and Renfro Valley Show from 1937-39.
Hosted the Ozark Jubilee series on ABC-TV from 1954-60. Regular on TV's Mr.Smith Goes To Washington.
Inducted into the C&W Hall of Fame in 1967
