Biography
Queen Liliʻuokalani was Hawaii's last reigning monarch, and a composer and songwriter, her most famous work being "Aloha ʻOe".
Born in Honolulu on September 2, 1838, she became the Queen of Hawaii in 1891 but was overthrown in 1893 in an American-backed coup d'état establishing the Republic of Hawaii which was later annexed by the US in 1898. She was imprisoned in 1895 and 1896, and died on November 11, 1917.
