The Hamburg (Germany) Philharmonic State Orchestra
Founded in 1828 as the Philharmonische Gesellschaft, "Verein zur Aufführung von Winterkonzerten" (= Association for the Presentation of Winter Concerts),  the orchestra was merged with the "Hamburger Opernorchester" in 1934 and given the new name "Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg". Plans to rename the orchestra the "Philharmoniker Hamburg" around 2005 were not realised.
