Showing the Discogs bio

American music composer, songwriter, conductor and arranger.
Born August 8, 1914 in Greenfield, Ohio, USA
Died September 21, 1982 in Newport Beach, California, USA.
Not to be confused with UK saxophonist Peter King (born 1940).
He was an arranger for singers and orchestras, then a conductor for radio and television, recordings and films. Joined ASCAP in 1957. He specialized in mood music and arranged the original mood music albums for Jackie Gleason and numerous film and television scores including "South Pacific".
King studied music at the Cincinnati Conservatory and the University of Michigan, and worked in radio on "The Fred Allen Show" and others. He was nominated for a Grammy five years in a row, 1960-1964. He worked with some of the period's best singers, including Julie London, Kay Starr, Dean Martin, Doris Day, and Bing Crosby.
