Born January 23, 1887 in Joplin, Missouri, USA — died March 17, 1952 in New York City, New York, USA.
Wrote popular rags like "Peaches and Cream" (1905), "Alamo Rag" (1910, with his wife, Dolly Connolly), and "Red Rose Rag" (1911). His greatest hits were the rag "The Smiler" (1907) and the songs "Put on Your Old Grey Bonnet" (1909), "Moonlight Bay" (1912), and "When You Wore a Tulip and I Wore a Big Red Rose" (1914).
