Daniel Dumile Thompson (July 13, 1971 – October 31, 2020), also credited as Daniel Dumile and Daniel Thompson, was a hip hop recording artist, rapper, and producer best known as MF Doom, usually stylized as MF DOOM. He was known for his metal mask, “super villain” stage persona, intricate rhyme style, and sample-based production.
Dumile was born in London, England, to a Trinidadian mother and Zimbabwean father, and was raised in Long Island, New York. Although he grew up in the United States, he remained a British citizen and never became a U.S. citizen. He began his career in 1988 as Zev Love X, co-founding KMD with his younger brother Subroc. After Subroc’s death in 1993 and the end of KMD’s initial run, Dumile withdrew from the music business for several years before re-emerging in the late 1990s as MF Doom.
His aliases and credited names include Zev Love X, King Ghidra (also known as King Geedorah), Viktor Vaughn, Metal Fingers, King Dumile, The Super Villain, The Metal Finger Villain, The Emef, and Sci.Fly. His group and collaborative artist profiles include KMD, Monsta Island Czars, Madvillain, Danger Doom, JJ DOOM, NehruvianDOOM, DOOMSTARKS, MA Doom and WestsideDoom.
