He began his career on the local scene on the island of Madeira, a tourist destination frequented by foreigners where rock music grew at the same time as the mainland, presenting important groups for the Portuguese scene. In 1965 and 1966, the quartet was strongly inspired by the Beatles, but on their second record Jardim was already launching himself as a composer, foreshadowing other possibilities. Shortly after, the musician left for England to study, forming groups such as Casablanca (which was released on Elton John's Rocket label) and releasing a single under the pseudonym Rouge. But he mainly emerged as a successful session musician. More recently, he has appeared as a television personality in Portugal, as a judge on several talent shows.
