Greer began his career as a pianist in a film theatre, then served in World War I. After the war, he was a pianist for music publishers, joining ASCAP in 1923.
Best known for songs "Reaching for the Moon", "Sleepy Head", "Flapperette", "Freshie", "Did You Mean It?", "Spellbound" and "Just You, Just Me".
