US-American singer, songwriter and producer born in 1936 in Ocilla, Georgia but generally connected to the New York / New Jersey area. Kerr's first group was The Serenaders along with Sidney Barnes. After a stint in the military he sang lead for Little Anthony & The Imperials prior to signing a songwriting deal with Motown / Jobete and learning production in Detroit. After his deal with Motown Kerr returned to New Jersey where he wrote or produced artists including Linda Jones, The Whatnauts, Manhattans, Lonnie Youngblood, The Escorts, Phyllis Hyman, Eddie Fisher, and especially for the roster of Sylvia Robinson's. He is the father of Sandy Kerr and Tracy Kerr, and brother of Napoleon Kerr.
