Biography

Armin Lackenbach Robinson, born as Armin Lackenbach (born February 23, 1900 in Vienna, † September 12, 1985 in Bad Ischl) was an Austrian music publisher and lyricist who experienced his professional high point in Berlin in the late 1920s and early 1930s. His pen name Robinson was the maiden name of his mother.
Robinson wrote several popular hit songs, including "Zwei Herzen im Dreivierteltakt," "Auch du wirst mich einmal betrügen," and "Wenn wieder Frühling ist." As a sought-after lyricist, he collaborated on operettas by Ralph Benatzky, Paul Abraham, Oscar Straus, and Robert Stolz. He co-wrote German lyrics for many American pop hits, frequently collaborating with Licco Stein, Robert Gilbert, and Fritz Rotter, and collaborated both on songs and the script for several early sound movies.
After the Nazis came to power, Robinson fled to Switzerland, where he founded another publishing company in 1934. He continued to work on operettas that were performed both in Switzerland and in Austria, where he established a secondary home in Bad Ischl. In 1936, he wrote the script for a British film starring Richard Tauber, "Forbidden Music." When Nazi-Germany annexed Austria in 1938, he had to leave again. In 1941, he and his wife, the actress Trude Lieske, emigrated via Switzerland and Spain to the United States. They only returned in 1949, settling in Ancona, Switzerland, and Bad Ischl, Austria.
