A Scottish conductor and opera intendant (born 11 February 1926 in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK; died 14 January 1995).
He was the longest serving principal conductor of the Scottish National Orchestra. Founder of Scottish Opera in 1962, and was music director until 1986.
