Biography
Mexican songwriter, born 9 August 1923 in Puebla, Mexico. Maestro Alberto Raúl Cervantes González passed away on October 31, 2001 in Mexico City.
His songs have been performed by, among others, Lola Beltrán, Pedro Vargas, and Javier Solís. He co-wrote several songs with Rubén Fuentes, for which he received three Gold Records throughout his career. His most notable songs include Di que no es verdad (Say It's Not True), Ni por favor (Not Even Please), La verdolaga (The Purslane), Ruega por nosotros (Rue for Us), and, above all, the famous Cien años (One Hundred Years), one of the most recorded boleros in Mexican vernacular music. It was recently re-recorded by Natalia Lafourcade for her album Un canto por México, Vol. II (2021), in which she performs it alongside another of the most renowned contemporary voices, Pepe Aguilar.
