Biography
Vince Dennis (b. 1966?, Los Angeles, California), known under his stage name Vincent Price (opens in a new tab), is an American metal bassist, vocalist, and music technician. He has played in Body Count (opens in a new tab) since 2001, winning the Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance" in March 2021, and has recorded and performed with Steel Prophet from 1988 to 2004, rejoining the band in 2007. As a technician, Vince partnered with numerous prominent acts and musicians across genres, including Prince, Chris Cornell, Richie Sambora, Steve Vai, Katy Perry, and The Chicks (opens in a new tab) (ex-Dixie Chicks). Name variations: Vincent Dennis, Vince Du Juan Dennis
Dennis was born and grew up in South Central, later relocating to Pomona in eastern Los Angeles County, where he began skateboarding and became involved with a local punk scene as a roadie. In 1988, Vince joined the speed metal band Steel Prophet. He played bass in Earth and its short-lived successor, World In Pain, recording on 1994–95 demos, and performed on bass with Prong on a 1996 live tour. Vince Dennis was a member of Tourniquet, appearing on the '98 Acoustic Archives album and video, and reportedly played with (even though the band's only known release, Terror From Beyond Space (US 1997) (opens in a new tab) CD, credited Elrich Von Vader as bassist). In 2001, he joined Ice-T's metal band Body Count (opens in a new tab), replacing Griz. Vince stepped away from Steel Prophet around 2004 after recording the group's ninth album, Beware, for a worldwide tour with Body Count; he returned to Steel Prophet three years later. Circa 2006, Dennis began playing electric guitar in Obscene Gesture, recording on both albums and the final EP. His notable guest appearances include playing bass on Agent Steel's 1999 album Omega Conspiracy, recording on Conjuration's 2004 Demo, the Day Of The Dead (US 2005) (opens in a new tab) EP by Dia De Los Muertos, and with downset. on the band's 2022 album, Maintain.
As a music technician, Vince Dennis worked with Prince for several years with his old friend, guitar tech Takumi Suetsugu. He served as keyboards & horns technician on the Musicology Live 2004ever US tour, among other events. Vincent built custom pyramid-shaped purple guitar cabinets for Prince — several years before Jamie Scott (opens in a new tab)'s 3rd Power Amps introduced their well-known "pyramidal" model; it's unknown if and when Prince ever used them. In the following years, Dennis extensively collaborated with Chris Cornell, solo and in Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, and Audioslave; he participated in Cornell's final tour in 2017. Other notable artists that Vince Dennis worked for on the backline crew include Biohazard (he also played guitar with the band once, opening for Suicidal Tendencies), Ice-T, Queens Of The Stone Age, AFI, Dethklok, Engine, Fates Warning, Hypocrisy, Sly & The Family Stone, Weezer, Wyclef Jean, Ariana Grande, Lisa Marie Presley, Orianthi, Murderdolls, New Kids On The Block, Ben Harper, The Donnas, Gavin Rossdale, Halford, The Wallflowers, Usher, and Wicked Wisdom.
