Biography

English singer, songwriter, musician and producer, born October 21, 1970 in London, England.
Mortimer formed East 17 in 1991 after presenting his own material to London Records. He subsequently recruited Brian Harvey, John Hendy and Terry Coldwell to form the group. Mortimer was East 17's principal songwriter during their original 1990s period and also performed vocals and keyboards.
He wrote or co-wrote much of East 17's recorded material, including "House Of Love", "Deep", "It's Alright", "Steam", "Let It Rain" and "Stay Another Day". The latter was co-written with Dominic Hawken and Rob Kean and became East 17's only UK No. 1 single, also reaching the Christmas No. 1 position in 1994. Mortimer was named Songwriter of the Year at the 1995 Ivor Novello Awards. Mortimer left East 17 in 1997. Following his departure, the remaining members continued as [a=E-17 and recorded the album "Resurrection" without him. He took part in an East 17 reunion in 2006 and later returned to the group, recording the album "Dark Light", released in 2012. He left East 17 again in 2013.
In 2013, he released his first solo album, "Songs From The Suitcase", through FOD Records. The album included "Rain In England", also released as a single featuring Julian Lennon.
