Biography

Los Mayos were a instrumental studio group from Belgium.
The group formed in Belgium in 1964 around Jo Van Wetter on guitar. Wetter (also known as Luiz Ricardo) also wrote many of the songs. The arrangements were usually by Belgian pianist Willy Albimoor with production by Belgian brothers Roland Kluger and Jean Kluger
As Los Mayas they released "La Playa" in 1964 which was a hit on the continent and was covered by many instrumental bands and orchestras including Claude Ciari, Frank Pourcel, Fausto Papetti, Mr Acker Bilk, Ronnie Aldrich, Xavier Cugat, James last Band, Yoshiro Kimura, Wout Steenhuis, Uriel and others.
The group specialized in easy listening Latin style music. They had their highest popularity in Belgium and Germany, but their releases were also available in English speaking markets.
