Biography

American singer, lead guitarist and main songwriter for Alice In Chains, born March 18, 1966 in Tacoma, Washington.
He learned to play guitar in his adolescence and started as a student. He went from Washington to Dallas, Texas to form a band in 1985, but returned to Tacoma and Seattle around 1986. After he became homeless in 1987, he met Layne Staley in Seattle, who offered him to live in his house. A couple of events later, the core of later band Alice In Chains was formed.
With the band, he was guitarist, songwriter, co-lyricist and co-vocalist throughout their history in the 1990s, when the band became one of the most successful Grunge bands. The band went on a hiatus in the late 1990s due to Staley's drug abuse, which ended up with Staley's death in 2002.
In 1996, Cantrell released his first solo works, and in 1998 he released his first solo album. After Staley's death, the band Alice In Chains continued in 2005, now with Cantrell as lead vocalist of the band.
