British keyboardist, composer and actor.
Born April 17, 1945 in London, England, UK.
Died July 11, 2025 in England, UK.
Best known as David Kaff, he gained international recognition as the keyboardist for the progressive rock band Rare Bird, co-founding the group and contributing to its success with the hit single “Sympathy.” He played a memorable role as Viv Savage, the eccentric keyboardist in the iconic 1984 mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” and performed with the film’s fictional band in real-life television appearances. Kaffinetti was also active in several music projects, including Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom, and played on Chuck Berry’s album “The London Chuck Berry Sessions.” Renowned for his quick wit and warm demeanor, Kaffinetti was admired by peers both for his musicianship and his humor.
