It has since been covered by numerous artists, including The Strangeloves, Cliff Richard, Kim Carnes, George Thorogood and The Grateful Dead.
British blues-rock guitarist Eric Clapton covered the song and it was released on the single A-side in October 1974.
Willie and the Hand Jive is included on his second studio album 461 Ocean Boulevard, released July 1974.
The single reached the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 26.
