The Old Beloved Path is a Folk album by Jake Xerxes Fussell, originally released in 2026.
About
Like a piece of Shaker-inspired furniture, this deceptively novel collection of Americana is distinguished by its sturdy construction and simple but thoughtful details. A beautiful electric guitar hook shimmers through “Boney,” while “Boll Weevil” has an off-kilter structure with playful turns that Georgia-born singer-songwriter Jake Xerxes Fussell matches in verse (“The last I saw boll weevil/He was sittin’ in a chair/And the very next morning/There was a pencil behind his ear”). Most fetchingly, Fussell doesn’t try to sell you his bit as old-timey precious or some antidote to the face-tuned madness of modern life, instead coming to the music as naturally as a headwater flows to a creek, and with the same quiet confidence. He just likes it this way.
