About

The London Chuck Berry Sessions was released in May 1972 on Chess Records, catalogue CH 60020. Fulfilling the commercial promise of his return to the label, the release split its tracklist between new studio recordings and a genuine live concert performance. The first side featured tracks recorded in London with notable British musicians, including Kenney Jones of The Faces and Ian McLagan, while the second side captured his set at the Lanchester Arts Festival in Coventry. The hybrid album became a massive commercial success, securing its place as the highest-charting and biggest-selling record of Berry's entire career. It climbed to number 8 on the Billboard Top LPs chart and achieved even greater heights in the singles market, where the live novelty song "My Ding-a-Ling" famously scored Chuck Berry his first and only number-one hit on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.".
