The Hunter is Blondie’s 6th studio album. It was released on June 5, 1982 via Chrysalis Record. The singles were “Island of Lost Souls” and “War Child.” The Hunter, according to Blondie’s singer Debbie Harry, has a loose concept of “searching, hunting or pursuing one’s own Mt. Everest.” There are many pop culture references and then modern issues mentioned throughout the album, such as The Beatles being referenced in “English Boys” in response to John Lennon's death and military conflicts in Cambodia and the Middle East being referenced in “War Child.” The album also contains a cover of Smokey Robinson’s “The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game.” The Hunter peaked at number 9 on UK album chart, number 33 on US album charts and number 15 on Australian album chart. Compared to the three Blondie records Mike Chapman produced prior to The Hunter (1978’s Parallel Line, 1979’s Eat To The Beat and 1980’s Autoamerican), The Hunter was relatively unsuccessful and was Blondie’s last album containing new material until the release of No Exit in 1999.
