About
On Soldier of Love — just her sixth album in 25 years, and the first since 2000’s Lovers Rock — Sade confounds expectations with new approaches marked by her signature crushed-velvet voice and remarkable presence. “Babyfather” settles into an uncharacteristic reggae groove and shines. “Be That Easy,” “Skin,” and “Long Hard Road” add to the singer’s collection of slow-boil ballads. “Soldier of Love,” with its guitar riff and militaristic drumming, prepares Sade for her re-entry onto love’s battlefield.
