About

Kylie Minogue’s third studio album arrived at the start of a new decade—and, appropriately enough, hinted at the broader course she would take in the future. As she did with her first two full-lengths, Minogue recorded 1990’s Rhythm of Love with the glossy ’80s hitmakers Stock Aitken Waterman, leading to effervescent disco-pop songs such as “Step Back In Time” and the house-music-influenced “Better the Devil You Know.” However, Minogue had a greater say in Rhythm of Love’s musical direction, steering the album’s sound by cowriting multiple songs. Highlights include the ’80s electro throwback “Count the Days” and the funky title track, both written with longtime Madonna collaborator Stephen Bray, and “The World Still Turns,” an adult-contemporary pop ballad penned with Martika collaborator Michael Jay. Rhythm of Love finds Minogue starting to take the reins of what would be a long and fruitful career.
