About
Whereas Nick Drake's earlier albums boasted elegant orchestrations, his final collection—perhaps his most potent of all—is the soul of minimalism. On tunes stripped to their bare essentials, both sonically and structurally, Drake's haunted murmur is accompanied only by his acoustic guitar. Desperation drips from the trenchant lyrics of tunes like "Things Behind the Sun" and "Place to Be," as Drake practically whispers his words, like a man struggling to fortify himself while facing the abyss.
