About
This album was originally released in vinyl in the UK in June 1978. UK/AUS'L/SWE June 1978 Decca LP/CS TXS/KTXC 129 gatefold cover, lyric insert. There was quite a gap between Seventh Sojourn (November 1972) and this album and after the band members had filled that gap with solo work, they returned to produce Octave. The album is a bit of a surprise. Not quite what Moodies Fans were used to at that time however Justin Haywards unmistakable vocals and guitar still come accross loud and clear. It has striking electric guitar rifts throughout. Driftwood appears on many of the Moodies compilation album. The mix of piercing electric guitar and saxiphone works extrememly well in this track. One of the tracks which seems to have been forgotten over the year, is the melodic final track "The Day We Meet Again". I love the way the melody continues to rise. Under Moonshine is another briliant track which keeps you going back to listen to Octave time and time again. "One Step Into The Light" was Mike Pinders final inclusion in a Moodies Album . This unfortunately is one of the few dissapointments on the album. It would be another three years before we got their next album - Long Distance Voyager. The Moody Blues have always been an aquired tast but once you've experienced the richness of their combined tallents both in writting and in performing I can guarantee you'll be eating up their music catalogue. The regrouping of the Moody Blues enabled Moody Blues fans to resume their enjoyment of their unique sound. .
