For their sixth album, Pink Floyd kept experimenting with space and time, but with far greater confidence in their abilities than before. “One of These Days” is a rolling juggernaut of echoed bass, with organ and guitar hawkishly swooping about. In “Fearless” they play unvarnished folk rock; “Seamus” is straightforward blues with a howling dog solo. The opus “Echoes” is a stately 23-minute trip through what would become classic Floyd whisper-rock, taking in a greasy funk breakdown and wailing ghost noises.

Pink Floyd began a week-long stint at, with engineers John Leckie and Peter Bown,
Recording ideas for their next album, Meddle.
8 April 1971:
Pink Floyd returned to for a week's recording session.
Further recording sessions took place throughout the month.
19 July 1971:
Pink Floyd went to North London's to continue work on Meddle,
Including final mixes for the track Echoes.
30 October 1971:
Meddle was released in the US, a week ahead of the UK. It reached No. 70 in the charts.
5 November 1971:
Meddle was released in the UK and reached No. 3 in the charts.
