About

Nektar, an English band formed in Germany debuted with Journey to the Centre of the Eye in 1971. Recorded in mid '71 in Dierks Studio, West Germany, the album is a conceptual progressive-space rock piece divided into 13 track, telling a story. The story follows an astronaut in a ship heading to Saturn, where he is intercepted by a "saucer of unknown origin". He then follows it, travelling through hyperspace and arriving to the a new galaxy, "The Dream Nebula", serene and beautiful. Once there, he acquires great knowledge, until he starts to "see everything". He comprehends the universe inside himself, and he can't bear what he see, for he witnesses the end of the world. One of the earliest examples of space rock, has a remarkable production and unique sound. Not very commercially succesfull when it was released, it received critical acclaim decades after, with retrospective reviews praising the bands musicianship. Personnel: Roye Albrighton - guitar, vocals Derek "Mo" Moore - Mellotron, ba, vocals Allan "Taff" Freeman - Mellotron, piano, organ, vocals Ron Howden - drum, percussion - also part of the group when performing live were Mick Brockett - liquid lights .
