About
Into the Light is the third solo album by English singer David Coverdale, released by EMI on 25 September 2000 in the UK, 27 September in Japan and by Dragonshed on 21 November in the US. After disbanding his band Whitesnake in 1997, Coverdale was keen on re-establishing himself as a solo artist, having released his previous two solo albums in the late 1970s. In an attempt to distance himself from Whitesnake's hard rock sound, Into the Light features a more stripped down and bluesier style. The album was self-produced by Coverdale, with additional production by Doug Bossi, Michael McIntyre, Bjorn Thorsrud and John X. Volaitis.

Into The Light is the third solo album by Whitesnake founder, former Deep Purple member, and singer-songwriter, David Coverdale. It was released on 25 September 2000 in Europe through; 27 September in Japan; and 21 November in the United States through his self-alliance label,. The album was the first to be recorded digitally in Coverdale's solo album discography, mainly through ProTools. Recorded somewhere between the late 1990s through 2000, it features a bluesy, stripped-down sound, with Coverdale producing the album himself. The first three months of production were spent at a studio in Los Angeles, with the remainder of the album being recorded at Coverdale's home studio at Lake Tahoe.
Commercially, it sold within its modest sales, peaking at number 75 in the UK albums chart and 5 in the UK Rock/Metal albums chart. It charted within six countries, while the highest peak was in Japan, coming in at number 31 in that chart. It was the most commercially and critically acclaimed best album in Coverdale's solo discography (besides Whitesnake and Northwinds). However, it did not sell well in the long term, considering its chart performance between other Whitesnake albums that have been successful after coming off the 1987 success, after having sold 25 million copies worldwide, he was dropped from the EMI label in 2001.
