About
"Forever, Michael" is the fourth studio album by American singer Michael Jackson and his final release with Motown Record, issued on January 16, 1975. The album includes material influenced by funk and soul, and was produced by Eddie Holland, Brian Holland, Hal Davi, Freddie Perren, and Sam Brown III. It marked a transitional point in Jackson's solo career prior to his later commercial breakthrough with "Off the Wall" (1979), and has been reported to have sold approximately one million copies worldwide. The album charted only in the United State, reaching number 101 on the Billboard 200 and number 10 on the Top Soul Albums chart. It did not enter charts outside the United State. Compared with Jackson's earlier solo release, its commercial performance was more limited, although it received generally positive critical responses at the time. Three singles were released to support the album, each achieving moderate chart success in the United States and in some international market. In 1981, Motown released the compilation album "One Day in Your Life", which was named after a track from "Forever, Michael". The title track was released as a single and reached number one in the United Kingdom and several other countrie. The material from the album was later included in the 2009 posthumous compilation "Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection". Recording for the album took place primarily in 1974, during a period in which Jackson's voice was changing from child to adult register. The album is noted for reflecting this vocal transition, with Jackson performing in a tenor range rather than a boy soprano. Its musical style has been described as incorporating smoother soul elements compared with earlier recording. Production was delayed partly due to the success of the Jackson 5 single "Dancing Machine", and Motown later promoted "Forever, Michael" alongside the Jackson 5 album "Moving Violation". The album includes singles such as "We're Almost There" and "Just a Little Bit of You", both associated with songwriters Eddie Holland and Brian Holland. In 1984, the track "Dear Michael" was covered by Kim Field. .
