Originally released in 2002 with remixes by DJ Tiësto, John Creamer + Stephane K., Junior Jack, and Lee Combs.
Over the next years, the song was used heavily in the Jason Bourne film series, starting with "The Bourne Identity" (where it was included in the film, but not in its soundtrack album (opens in a new tab)) and "The Bourne Supremacy" (opens in a new tab).
In 2007 a new version of the song was used as the theme for the film "The Bourne Ultimatum" (opens in a new tab) and released under the title "Extreme Ways (Bourne's Ultimatum)" (opens in a new tab).
In 2012 a new version of the song was used as the theme for the film "The Bourne Legacy" (opens in a new tab) and released under the title "Extreme Ways (Bourne's Legacy)" (opens in a new tab) with remixes by Loops Of Fury, Moguai, Loverush UK!, Tocadisco, Matador, Voodoo Child, and PatrickReza.
In 2016 a new version of the song was used as the theme for the film "Jason Bourne" (opens in a new tab) and released under the title "Extreme Ways (Jason Bourne)" a.k.a. "Extreme Ways (From The "Bourne" Film Series)" (opens in a new tab).
In 2021 a new version of the song was recorded for the album "Reprise" (opens in a new tab) and released under the title "Extreme Ways (Reprise Version)" (opens in a new tab) with remixes by Felsmann + Tiley and Peter Gregson. These remixes were also included in the 2022 album "Reprise Remixes" (opens in a new tab).
In 2026 the original album version and most of the original 2002 remixes were reissued (minus the original B-sides) in 24-Bit Hi-Res "".
