About

Electr-O-Pura is the seventh studio album by American indie rock band Yo La Tengo, released on May 2, 1995, by record label Matador. It was recorded at Alex the Great studio in Nashville and produced by Roger Moutenot. The album contains 14 tracks, including the singles "Tom Courtenay" and "Blue Line Swinger." The record followed the band's 1993 album Painful and further developed the group's approach to blending noise, feedback, and melody across a range of tempos and moods, from extended instrumental pieces to shorter pop songs. The album received very positive reviews from music critics and was ranked at number 9 in The Village Voice's 1995 Pazz & Jop critics' poll. In 2020, Matador Records reissued the album as part of its Revisionist History series, pressing it for the first time on two LPs and cutting it from the original 58-minute master.
