The Concerto for Group and Orchestra is a concerto composed by Jon Lord, with lyrics written by Ian Gillan. It was first performed by Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Malcolm Arnold on 24 September 1969 and released on vinyl in December 1969. The release was the first Deep Purple album to feature Ian Gillan on vocals and Roger Glover on bass. After the score was lost in 1970, it was performed again in 1999 with a recreated score.

First UK edition on Harvest SHVL 767 in December 1969 (Two versions are in circulation: V1 laminated only outside and printed by E.J.Day - V2 laminated inside as well and printed by Garrod & Lofthouse).
Four different vinyl versions in Japan chronological (all Warner Bros.):
BP 8962 (June 1970), P 8093W, P 6504W, P10331W (1976).
First issued in the U.S.A. in February 1970 on Tetragrammaton Records, catalog number T 131. This edition was short lived as the company went bust in early 1970. The distribution in U.S.A. was then managed by Warner Bros. and the record was repressed as catalog WS 1860 on Warner Brothers in April 1970
