About

Joni Mitchell’s second album, Clouds, is the first collection of the Joni who fans fell in love with. Her first album had left off songs she'd written that had been successful covers for other artists (such as “Tin Angel,” “Chelsea Morning," and “Both Sides Now”), but here she reclaims them as her own. Writing of the uncertainties of young love (“I Don’t Know Where I Stand”), mental illness (“I Think I Understand”), the allure of "wild ones" (“That Song About the Midway”), and even American military actions (“The Fiddle and the Drum”), Mitchell, with unusual harmonic and instrumental skills, proved herself a remarkable and superior talent.

Notes from the original pressing. Later editions may differ.

This is a Santa Maria pressing (indicated by the sloppily drawn backward S), orange & tan label design, first sleeve version with uncorrected seams in rear painting. The label and sleeve error date it to the first pressings of 1969. The first version also contains orange printing of the W7/Reprise logo in top right of jacket front; later corrected-artwork versions contain this in dark printing.
Released in a gatefold sleeve, with 'Commemorating Ten Years' company inner.
The 1st issues have botched artwork on the rear sleeve – a vertical seam visible through the image. This was airbrushed out on subsequent issues. These copies are from 1969 only, so all have the 2-tone Reprise/W7 labels.
