About

On Bottomless Pit, Death Grips present a strikingly concise iteration of their hip-hop radicalism. The music is still utterly bonkers, but it’s a bonkers that is tightly scripted. Opener “Giving Bad People Good Ideas” cuts straight to the chase, achieving nuclear meltdown via a marriage of neo-gabber hyper-stutter, sci-fi lysergia, and MC Ride’s sweat-soaked hardcore bark; “Bubbles Buried in This Jungle” downshifts effortlessly into fractured thumping beneath wheezing synths and abstract word-splatter. The closing title track comes full circle, unleashing turbo-charged, weird-punk fury that would make Boredoms as pleased as punch.

Bottomless Pit is Death Grips’ 5th album and overall 9th project to date.
All tracks were leaked online on April 29th, 2016, and the album was officially released on May 6th, 2016.
The album title is possibly a reference to Charles Manson’s shelter/hideout contained within a cave located in Death Valley called the Bottomless Pit. There is where he told his cult followers they would go after the apocalypse had risen over (which was to be the result of a racial war between blacks and whites, Helter Skelter). Death Grips has exhibited an interest in Charles Manson and his followers since the intro track to “Exmilitary”, “Beware”, which immediately begins with a famous quote from Manson. There is also a reference to Helter Skelter on the track “Spikes".
