The dramatic stylistic swing from "Back Together Again" to "Rich Girl"—the former a horn-powered throwback-soul number, the latter a succinct and scathing example of modern pop perfection—sums up Hall & Oates' restless fifth album. "Rich Girl" was the duo's first No. 1 hit, but it's a curveball among these nine dizzyingly diverse songs, which include the hefty blues-rocker "Room to Breathe," the slow-simmering, strings-laden mission statement "Do What You Want, Be What You Are," and the multi-movement prog-rock excursion "Falling."
