About
The rock legends’ creative spirit is fully engaged on new songs and renovated oldies. Heart’s 16th album tackles tracks from previous records that Ann and Nancy Wilson always felt needed improving. By stripping back ’80s bombast (“Johnny Moon”), adding strings (“Sweet Darlin’”), and introducing the razor-toothed bite of Metallica’s James Hetfield (“Beautiful Broken”), Heart re-invigorate their ballads and folk-inflected rock. The new songs shine too, with “Heaven”’s fusion of tough riffs and stately strings as good as any of the re-workings.
